WSOC: Donnelly’s Hat Trick Gives Wildcats a Big Win Over UMPI.

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The SUNY Poly women's soccer team put on an impressive offensive display on Saturday afternoon, securing a convincing 6-1 victory against Me.-Presque Isle (UMPI). With this win, the Wildcats improved their record to 4-5-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

 

From the opening whistle, SUNY Poly asserted their dominance on the field. Kate Donnelly led the scoring charge with an outstanding performance, netting a hat-trick. Donnelly's first goal came at the 14:40 mark, unassisted, setting the tone for the match. The Wildcats continued to apply relentless pressure, and within a span of just three minutes Hannah Shipley and Donnelly each scored twice extending SUNY Poly's lead to 3-0. Shipley scored her second goal of the game in the 28th minute, an unassisted goal. Elinor Slezak got in on the action with an unassisted goal in the 40th minute, pushing the score to 5-0 at halftime.

 

The Wildcats didn't let up in the second half, as Kate Donnelly added her third goal of the game in the 59th minute, giving her a hat trick for the first time in her career. The three goals were her first three of the season.

 

Alexis Ireland scored the lone goal for UMPI at the 74:28 mark to break up the shutout.

 

SUNY Poly dominated in nearly every statistical category, tallying 27 shots compared to Me.-Presque Isle's five. Marissa Havey, the goalkeeper for UMPI, made a solid effort with 10 saves but couldn't hold back the relentless Wildcat attack.

 

Katie Bowers earned the win in goal for the Wildcats. She made a pair of saves. She is now 4-3-1 this season.

The Wildcats will travel to Bangor to take on the Husson University Eagles on Sunday, October 8th. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
