WSOC: Wildcats Earn First NAC Win of the Season 4-0 Over SUNY Canton.

CANTON, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team showcased their offensive prowess in a commanding 4-0 victory over SUNY Canton on Thursday evening on the road. With this win, SUNY Poly improved to 2-5-1 overall and 1-1-0 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play, while SUNY Canton fell to 0-7-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the NAC.

 

The Wildcats dominated the match from the start, controlling possession and pressuring the opposing defense consistently throughout the game. The scoring opened in the 11th minute when Hannah Shipley capitalized on a breakaway opportunity, courtesy of an assist from Amanda Sweet. Shipley's well-placed shot found the back of the net, giving SUNY Poly a 1-0 lead.

 

The Wildcats continued to press, creating numerous scoring opportunities. In the 42nd minute, Shipley found the back of the net again, this time connecting with a header off a corner kick from Rylie Fischer. The teams headed to halftime with SUNY Poly leading 2-0.

 

In the second half, SUNY Poly's offense remained relentless. Caroline Entwistle extended the lead in the 55th minute with an easy tap-in goal, set up by Aubree Smykla's precise cross. Shipley completed her hat-trick in the 78th minute, finishing a cross from Entwistle to make it 4-0 in favor of SUNY Poly.

 

Katie Bowers, the Wildcats' goalkeeper, secured a shutout victory, making one save in 90 minutes of play. On the other side, Skylar Williams of SUNY Canton faced a barrage of shots, making 12 saves during the match.

 

The Wildcats outshot SUNY Canton 34-1, demonstrating their dominance in the contest. Additionally, SUNY Poly earned six corner kicks compared to none for SUNY Canton.

The Wildcats will travel to Massachusetts on Saturday to take on the Eastern Nazarene Lions. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start at Creedon Field in North Quincy.
