MARCY, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly women's soccer team tied against SUNY Canton on Wednesday evening 1-1. Hannah Shipley would score the lone Wildcats goal in the 54th minute on a penalty kick. With the draw, the Wildcats move to 4-2-4 on the season and 3-1-3 in North Atlantic Conference play. The Kangaroos move to 0-10-3 on the season and 0-4-3 in North Atlantic Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The SUNY Canton Kangaroos opened up the scoring early in the 6th minute of the game on a goal from Morgan Nealon, which was assisted by Emily Frazier. The Kangaroos would maintain the lead going into halftime, as goalkeeper Skylar Williams would make five saves in the first half to maintain the lead. The Wildcats had multiple scoring opportunities in the first half that came up just short.

The Wildcats, however, would strike early in the second half on a penalty kick from Hannah Shipley. The Kangaroos would have a foul called on a handball inside the penalty area, which led to Shipley burying the penalty kick into the lower right corner to tie the game. Both teams would have chances late, as Michalyn Fagan made a great save for the Wildcats on a breakaway late in the second half to keep the score at 1-1. The Wildcats would control possession for the majority of the game, but the Kangaroo's defense remained strong and stopped the Wildcat's offensive chances.

NOTABLE STATISTICS:

  • Hannah Shipley scored her 4th goal of the season, which puts her in the team lead for the Wildcats.
