WSOC: Wildcats Drop Conference Game 1-0 to Maine Maritime.

CASTINE, MAINE- The SUNY Poly women's soccer team lost to Maine Maritime Academy 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference game. The Mariners would score the lone goal in the game in the 43rd minute to move them to 2-4-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 2-2-2 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference play. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The first half of the game was controlled by the Mariners who would have five shots on goal in the first half compared to the Wildcat's one shot on goal. The Mariners would score the lone goal of the game right before halftime on a rebound goal from Emma White. The eventual game-winning goal would give White the team lead in goals on the season, at three. 

The second half proved to be more back and forth, with the Wildcats narrowly outshooting the Mariners with two shots on goal, compared to the Mariners one. However, it wasn't enough as Bess MacArthur would record three saves in the Mariners shutout. For the Wildcats, Kaitlyn Daley, Hannah Shipley, and Ashley Kiuber would all record shots on goal. 

 

NOTABLE STATISTICS: 

  • Katie Bowers and Michalyn Fagan split the game in goal for the Wildcats. Bowers would end with three saves, and Fagan would finish with one. 

  • Six different Mariners recorded shots on goal.

The Wildcats are back in action at home on Saturday, October 1st against SUNY Cobleskill. The game is set to kick off at 3:30 PM.
