WSOC: Second Half Goal By Shipley Leads to a 1-1 Tie at Thomas.

WATERVILLE, Maine - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team tied with Thomas College on Saturday in their second North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game of the season. The Terriers scored the game's first goal two minutes into the second half to take the lead. The Wildcats would tie the game up 22 minutes later. The Wildcats are now 2-1-2 this season with a 1-0-1 record in NAC play.

THE GOALS:

Thomas College scored the first goal of the game in the 47th minute. Brianne Benecke scored the goal, but it was facilitated by a perfect corner kick from Kelsey Currier. The corner was from the left side and was struck perfectly, sailing to the far post with a chance to go in all on its own. However, it first found the right foot of Benecke who netted it on an open goal.

The Wildcats tied the game up in the 69th minute. It all started with a foul just outside of the box on the left side. Meaghan Greenway took the free kick on the left corner of the box. She hit a low line drive that found the right foot of Hannah Shipley who had gotten leverage and space on her defender. Shipley's shot beat a diving goalkeeper finding the bottom right corner of the goal.

The rest of the game saw just three shots on goal, all were saved by the respective keepers to keep the game tied at one.
