WSOC: Wildcats Clinch NAC Postseason Spot With Big Win Over NVU-Johnson.

JOHNSON, Vt. - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team beat NVU-Johnson 5-1 on Saturday to wrap up their regular season schedule with a 5-9 record. Their 3-5 record in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play was good enough to clinch the #4 seed in the NAC West Division. Five different players scored in the game to give the 'Cats the win. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

Kaitlyn Daley opened up the game with her ninth goal of the season in the third minute. The goal was assisted by Kate Donnelly. Johnson would tie the game at one in the 13th minute on an unassisted goal by Madelyn House. The Wildcats would answer to close out the first 45. Ashley Kiuber scored in the 37th minute and Sarah George scored a goal to wrap up the first half in the 41st minute. The goals were assisted by Hannah Shipley and Kaitlyn Daley respectively. The Wildcats would grow their 3-1 halftime lead to 5-1 late in the second half. A goal by Hannah Shipley in the 75th minute, assisted by Montana Wolf grew the lead to 4-1. Montana Wolf's goal in the 79th minute, assisted by Kate Donnelly grew the lead to four.

 

PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS: 

The Wildcat win gives them a 3-5 overall record in NAC play with a 2-2 divisional record. There were three teams in the NAC West with 2-2 divisional records so a multi-level tie-breaker was used to seed the divisional games. 

 

Through the process of the pre-determined tie-breaking system, SUNY Poly was seeded #4 and will face the #1 seeded SUNY Delhi Broncos in the first round of the postseason tournament. SUNY Delhi will host the three divisional-round games on Saturday, October 30th, and Sunday, October 31st. The final game times have not yet been announced. 

 

The quarterfinal games will be played on Saturday with #1 SUNY Delhi facing #4 SUNY Poly and #2 Cazenovia taking on #3 SUNY Canton. The winners will face off on Sunday in the semifinal. The winner in the West will face the winner of the East Division semifinal on Saturday, November 6th.  The host site for the Championship is TBD. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • Kaitlyn Daley had three points in the game on a goal and an assist. She currently sits at 21 points on the year which is a team-high. 

  • Montana Wolf had three points in the game on a goal and an assist. She now has a career-high seven points this season and 13 total career points. 

  • Hannah Shipley also had a goal and an assist in the game. She now has a pair of goals and a pair of assists this season. 

  • Sarah George and Ashley Kiuber each had a goal in the game. George's goal was her fourth of the season. Kiuber's was her third. 

  • Kate Donnelly had a pair of assists in the game to bring her season point total to eight.

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will wait to hear the final details for the NAC Championship Tournament. SUNY Poly knows their opponent, SUNY Delhi, but is waiting for Saturday's game times to be announced.
