WSOC: SUNY Poly Earns First NAC Win of the Season Over Cazenovia 2-1.

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's soccer team took down Cazenovia on Saturday in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game. The Wildcats played solid defense, keeping Cazenovia off the board for 83 minutes. Megan Greenway was a force offensively for the Wildcats, scoring her first two career goals. The Wildcats are now 2-3 with a 1-0 record in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Megan Greenway had a fantastic game for the Wildcats. The sophomore scored both of SUNY Poly's goals. Her first was an absolute rifle of a shot from around 40 yards out with under a minute to play in the first half. Greenway would strike again mid-way through the second half on another long-distance strike, this time from around 30 yards out. The second goal was a finessed chip shot that had the perfect height to it. The ball tipped off the goalkeeper's fingertips and found the back of the net. Cazenovia would score a goal in the 84th minute to make an attempt at a comeback but the effort was too little, too late as the Wildcat defensive unit held their ground to secure the win.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Megan Greenway scored both of the Wildcat's goals. They were her first two career goals for the Wildcats.

  • Katie Bowers earned the win in goal for the Wildcats. She played 76 minutes and recorded a pair of saves.

  • Logan Lund scored Cazenovia's goal in the second half. The goal was assisted by Jenicah Brown.

  • The Wildcats took 17 shots as a team and landed nine of them on goal. Cazenovia took nine shots and put four on goal.

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will return home to take on the Utica College Pioneers in a non-conference game on Wednesday, September 22nd at 7:00 PM. The game will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN)
