Women’s Soccer Downed by Top Seed Penn State Berks in NEAC Semifinals

READING, Pa.– The SUNY Polytechnic Women's Soccer Team's season drew to a close on Saturday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to top overall seed in the tournament and host Penn State Berks. The Nittany Lions have yet to lose a conference game this season and were a heavy favorite entering the game.

To the Wildcat's credit, the game was scoreless through the first half. With 37 minutes to go in the second half, however, the Nittany Lions broke the tie to go up 1-0, and were able to extend the lead to 4-0 by game's end.

SUNY Poly parried 10 shots from the Nittany Lions in the first half, along with 4 corners. The Wildcats' only opportunity of the half came on a shot from Alexis Forgit (Morris, N.Y. / Morris) in the 22nd minute of play. Keeper Savannah Cramer made the save, however, her sole stop of the game.

Lizzie Mummau broke things open in the 53rd minute with her 19th goal of the year, a strike to the far corner on an assist from Chrissy Smith.

Often when two teams battle through a long scoreless stretch, it isn't surprising to see another quick goal shortly following the first, as the defending team understandably deflates. On Saturday, though, the Wildcats kept battling. SUNY Poly buckled down and held the high-powered Nittany Lion attack in check for another 15 minutes of game time.

Bringing an end to that effort was Dana Sarcinello, who scored her 20th goal of the season. Sarcinello went on to score once more late in the game, and Mummau added another goal, as the sophomore duo combined to do all the scoring for the Nittany Lions.

The Wildcats finish the season at 9-10-2 overall, and 7-4-1 in conference play (not including playoffs).
