Wildcats Win 7-0 as Strang Ties School Record for Career Goals

MARCY, N.Y. – For the second straight day the SUNY Poly Women's Soccer Team (6-7-1, 6-2 NEAC) cruised to victory, earning a 7-0 shutout over the Gallaudet University Bison (2-13, 1-9 NEAC). Wildcat senior Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, N.Y. / Schalmont) exploded for 4 goals on the day, vaulting her into a tie for the all-time Wildcat lead in career goals with 33.

Strang is currently tied with Stephanie Wurz '14 and Jane Burroughs '10.

The Wildcats scored two goals in the first half as McKenna Hungerford (Morris, N.Y. / Morris) came up with the first score just under 6 minutes into the game, and Alexis Forgit (Morris, N.Y. / Morris) added one a few minutes later on an assist from Kiersten Albertson (Kirkville, N.Y. / East Syracuse Minoa).

Surprisingly given the gaudy shot numbers (the Wildcats out shot Gallaudet 18 to 3 in the first half and 44 to 3 in the game), the home team was unable to muster any more scores throughout the first 45 minutes.

All that changed early in the second half, as Strang came out firing. The senior forward netted a goal just 13 seconds into the second half and never let up, scoring the first 4 goals-in-a-row of the second half over a period of less than 25 minutes. Among those was this nifty sliding strike in the 56th minute on an assist from Brittany Waterbury (Remsen, N.Y. / Remsen).

Strang's season total of 10 goals following Sunday's game leads the team, and is tied for 8th in the NEAC conference. She is currently one goal shy of her highest season total from 2010, in which she scored 11 goals. Five regular season games remain on the 2014 Wildcat schedule.

SUNY Poly will host their penultimate home game this Wednesday as they take on SUNY Canton. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
