Scores from Strang, Marconi Lead Women’s Soccer to 2-1 Victory Over Wells

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNY Polytechnic Women's Soccer Team (4-5-1, 4-1 NEAC) picked up another conference win during Wildcat Weekend on Saturday, besting visiting Wells College 2-1.

SUNY Poly's first goal came as a result of a great play by junior Julia Jaikin (Dolgeville, N.Y. / Dolgeville). In the 32nd minute, Jaikin made an excellent individual move to gain an advantage on her defender deep in Wells territory. Moving left to right, Jaikin got a shoulder past her defender then pushed a well-timed pass to a streaking Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, N.Y. / Schalmont). The Wildcat's leading scorer needed just one touch to punch the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper to the far side of the net, giving SUNY Poly a 1-0 lead.

The Express answered back in the 43rd minute, as Karley Raczynski took advantage of a deep forward pass by Shannon Blanford, playing the ball perfectly to get a one-on-one with the Wildcat keeper Angela Bartlett (West Winfield, N.Y. / Mount Markham). Raczynski let fly a deep shot that went over Bartlett's head for the score.

SUNY Poly appeared to be in control of the game yet was unable to break through for the deciding score until the 66th minute. A barrage of offense finally yielded a point-blank try for Alexis Forgit (Morris, N.Y. / Morris). Forgit's shot, however, was blocked by the diving Wells keeper. Luckily for the Wildcats Corrina Marconi (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili) was hustling on the play and knocked in the game-winning score off the goalie's deflection. The score is Marconi's second on the season.

The Wildcats now have a week to prepare for another league home game. They take on Keuka College this Saturday, October 4th, at 12:00 pm.
