Trailblazer Goal in 70th Minute Downs Women’s Soccer on the Road

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The SUNY Polytechnic Women's Soccer Team (3-5-1) fell to the Trailblazers of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Wednesday night, as the home team came up with a goal in the 70th minute for a 1-0 win.

The Trailblazers out shot the Wildcats 9-0 in the first half and 24 to 7 for the game, however they were unable to push one past the goal line for much of the game thanks in large part to an excellent game from SUNY Poly keeper Angela Bartlett (West Winfield, N.Y. / Mount Markham). Bartlett finished with 11 saves, tying her season-high.

SUNY Poly appeared to have dodged a bullet in the second half when a Trailblazer player missed high on a penalty kick. However, minutes later Jackie Dwyer converted a great cross from the left side by Courtney Thayer (69:42), breaking the scoreless tie.

Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, N.Y. / Schalmont) had a pair of late chances to even things up. The senior striker missed wide on the first attempt, and was victimized by a diving save at the post from Trailblazer keeper Katy Daly on the second.

The Wildcats return home this Saturday as part of Wildcat Weekend. They will host the Wells College Express for a 12:00 pm game, to precede the men's soccer game at 2:00 pm.
