Women’s Soccer Falls in NEAC Quarterfinal to Lancaster Bible College, 4-2

LANCASTER, Pa. – The SUNYIT Women's Soccer Team's season came to a close on Saturday, as the Wildcats fell to the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College, 4-2.

The Chargers struck first, getting on the board in the 26th minute on a goal by Monica Horning. Six minutes later, Lancaster would extend their lead on a goal by Alyssa Wesner, her 18th of the season.

Down 2-0 in the second half, the Wildcats mounted a comeback, as SUNYIT senior Amanda Bohne (Clay, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse) netted a goal in the 50th minute.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they would give it right back a minute later as Kirsten Webster put the Chargers back up by two, finding the net off a cross from Monica Horning.

With less than six minutes remaining in the contest, the Wildcats gave themselves hope as Kristina Strang scored her 8th goal of the season on an assist from first-year Kaelyn Francis.

Down 3-2 with little time left on the clock, the Wildcats saw any hope at a comeback dashed when Alyssa Wesner's 19th goal of the year gave Lancaster a 4-2 lead in the 89th minute.

The Wildcats held their own against a tough Charger team, with SUNYIT managing to give themselves a puncher's chance despite being out shot 28 to 6. Keeper Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, N.Y. / Mohawk) did her best stem the Charger tide, making 9 saves on the day in taking the loss.

With the win, the Chargers advance to compete in the NEAC Semifinals next weekend, while the Wildcats finish their season with an overall record of 8-10-1, having finished on a strong note in winning 4 of their last 5 games.
