Wildcats Battle SUNY Canton to 1-1 tie in Double-Overtime

CANTON, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Soccer Team traveled up north to take on the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton on Wednesday night, battling the 'Roos to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime.

Jade Sayward scored the first goal of the game in the 31st minute, heading a pass from Karley Cree into the lower right corner of the net.

It would be the only score allowed in 110 minutes by SUNYIT keeper Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, N.Y. / Mohawk), who turned away 7 of the 8 shots she saw on the night.

The Wildcats would even the count in the second half, as first-year Kaelyn Francis (Worcester, N.Y. / Worcester Central School) scored off a short pass from SUNYIT senior and leading scorer Stephanie Wurz (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Notre Dame).

That would be the last score for the next 62 minutes, as neither team's defense budged throughout the rest of regulation, and continued their stingy play through two overtimes.

With the tie the Wildcats move to 4-9-1 on the year, while the Kangaroos move to 7-7-1.

SUNYIT is currently 1-1-1 on their current 5-game road trip, and will look to finish strong starting with a 1:00 pm match up at Wilson College this Saturday.
