Women’s Soccer Blanks Cobleskill 7-0

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Soccer Team picked up their second-straight NEAC win on Saturday, besting SUNY Cobleskill 7-0 to improve to 3-4-0 in conference.

The Wildcats got on the board early and often, as first-year Kaelyn Francis (Worcester, N.Y. / Worcester) followed up her goal from Wednesday's win over Cazenovia with another one just 7:57 into Saturday's game. Francis was the beneficiary of an assist from fellow first-year Alicia Wittmann (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy).

After that, it would be the Stephanie Wurz (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Notre Dame) show. Wurz scored in the 20th minute on an unassisted play, then proceeded to score again in the 27th and 33rd minutes to finish with a hat trick.

Following Wurz for the lead in scoring on the day was Katie Driscoll (Aurora, N.Y. / Southern Cayuga). The senior midfielder netted two goals on the day, one in the first half and one in the second half. First-year Samantha Hubinsky (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls) scored the sixth and final goal for the Wildcats in the 65th minute, her first career score.

Wildcat goalkeeper Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, N.Y. / Mohawk) recorded her second-consecutive shutout, making six saves on the day including a particularly adroit stop in the second half to thwart a one-on-one from a Fighting Tiger attacker.

SUNYIT will look to keep their win streak alive as they start a five-game road swing on Wednesday. The Wildcats will head to Hartwick for a 7:00 pm matchup.
