Women’s Soccer Falls to Berks, 5-0

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Soccer Team (1-7-0, 1-3 NEAC) fell to Penn State Berks on Saturday by a score of 5-0. The formidable Nittany Lions (who last year appeared in the NEAC Conference Championship), scored all 5 goals in the second half to take the win.

The Wildcats looked solid in the first half, especially on defense as they held the potent Lions to just 5 shots. SUNYIT goalie Maggie Werenczek made 4 saves in the first half, and the two teams appeared evenly matched.

Fourteen minutes into the second half Ellie McKinstry scored the game's first goal, an unassisted play at the 59-minute mark.

The play seemed to break something loose for the Nittany Lions, who went on to score 4 more goals over the next 8-minutes of game play. All five goals were scored by different players, as Penn State-Berks unleashed a barrage of shots in the second half, finishing the game with an 18-3 advantage in that category.

The Wildcats will look for better luck against another Pennsylvania school tomorrow, as they take on Penn State-Abington. Game time is set for 2:00 pm.
