CAZENOVIA, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Women's Soccer Team picked up a great win on the road Wednesday night, shutting out Cazenovia 1-0 to get their second win of the season and second conference win.

SUNYIT first-year player Kaelyn Francis (Worcester, N.Y. / Worcester Central School) scored the would-be game winner in the first half, netting the ball in the 42nd minute. Wildcat senior Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, N.Y. / Schalmont High School) was credited with an assist on the play, and the play was started by a corner kick by fellow first-year player Samantha Hubinsky (South Glens Falls, N.Y. / South Glens Falls).

It would be all the Wildcats would need, as the SUNYIT defense clamped down to secure the 1-0 win.

Also impressive on the day was SUNYIT keeper Margeret Werenczek (Mohawk, N.Y. / Mohawk High School). The senior made 10 saves, six of which came in the second half when a desperate Cazenovia team unleashed a barrage of shots (14) to try to get back in the game. Werenczek and the SUNYIT defense led in part by team co-captain Jamie Elderbroom (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango High School) blanked the home Wildcats to preserve the 1-0 win and drop Cazenovia to 4-2 in the NEAC.

SUNYIT will look to build off their win and get back into the NEAC mix with another conference matchup this Saturday. The Wildcats will host SUNY Cobleskill in a 2:00 pm contest.
