Three First-Half Goals Propel Women’s Soccer over Wells

MARCY, N.Y. – SUNYIT pulled away early in a 3-0 win over the Wells College Express on Saturday, benefiting from faces both familiar and unfamiliar in their 5th conference win.

Starting things off for the Wildcats was the latter, as junior Jamie Elderbroom (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) executed a perfect header in the 14th minute. Elderbroom benefited from a fantastic corner kick by Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater) on the play to score her second goal of the season.

Eleven minutes later Elderbroom – who thus far in the season has been known more for her defense than goal scoring – struck again, beating the keeper at 24:29 off a Katie Driscoll (Aurora, N.Y. / Southern Cayuga) assist.

While the 2-0 stake was enough for SUNYIT's stingy defense (the Wildcats allowed just one shot by the Express in the first half), in the 43rd minute Dakota Hanley (Franklin, N.Y. / Franklin Central) added some extra cushion, beating the Express keeper on  one-on-one.

Hanley has now scored at least one goal in each of SUNYIT's last three games, increasing her total on the season to four.

During the game the Wildcats wore pink jerseys in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, and urge their followers to log on to www.bcrfcure.org to donate to Breast Cancer research.

SUNYIT will be back in action on October 10th, when they travel to SUNY Cobleskill for a 4:00 pm match.
