SUNYIT Women’s Soccer Dominates Mustangs, 8-2

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Wildcats played an excellent game on the road Saturday beating the Morrisville State Mustangs 8-2 to earn their 3rd conference win in as many games. 

Junior midfielder Stephanie Wurz (Whitesboro, N.Y. / Notre Dame HS) opened up the scoring for the Wildcats with a breakaway goal in the 24th minute on an assist by Abbey Hanehan. Wurz had 1 goal and 1 assist on the day.

Morrisville scored two goals on Saturday, one by Krista Baxter in the 33rd minute, and the other by Courtney Purcell in the 57th minute. Morrisville's efforts however, were thwarted by the offense of the Wildcats who scored 8 goals on 27 shots to crush the spirits of the Mustangs.

Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y. / Stillwater HS) was the statistical leader for the Wildcats scoring 4 goals on 8 shots and recording 1 assist.  Jamie Elderbloom (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango HS), Amanda Bohne (Clay, N.Y. / Cicero-North Syracuse HS) and Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, N.Y. / Schalmont HS) also contributed to the Wildcats offensive surge by each scoring 1 goal. 

The win at Morrisville brings the Wildcats overall record to 4-3 and their conference record to a perfect 3-0.

The Wildcats will look to improve their conference record as they go head to head with the Penn. State Abington Nittany Lions on Saturday, September 22 in Abington P.A. The game is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm.
