SUNYIT Women's Soccer Topple Conference Foe Wilson 4-1

PHILADEPHIA, PA – The women's soccer team picked up a win on the road this afternoon against NEAC rival Wilson College 4-1.  This also marks their first conference win of the 2011 season.

Sophomore midfielder Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, N.Y./Stillwater) had the first goal of the evening with an assist coming from freshman Shelby Parker (Galway, N.Y./Galway).  In the 21st minute junior Amanda Myers put one in off the pass from senior forward Nicole DiNitto (Oriskany, N.Y./Oriskany).  The Wildcats continued to dominate in the second half with an early goal by Parker with DiNitto banking her second assist of the evening.  With less than twenty minutes left in the game, sophomore midfielder Jamie Elderbroom (Chittenango, N.Y./Chittenango) knocked in a fourth goal after DiNitto gave help with her third and final assist of the night.

SUNYIT led in total shots with a total of 27.  Head Coach Tyler Renaud said of his team's efforts: "it was a good win for the squad.  We had quality ball-control but we still need to finish our chances at a higher percentage.  Amanda Bohne (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse), Nicole DiNitto, Shelby Parker, Stephanie Wurz (Utica, N.Y./Notre Dame) and Katie Wilday (Galway, N.Y./Galway) had an exceptional game!"

In the net for the Wildcats letting only one goal in out of the three shots put on her was sophomore goalkeep Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, N.Y./Mohawk) who played all 90 minutes.

Scoring the lone goal for the Pheonix was sophomore midfielder Courtney Bernecker (Saint Thomas, P.A./James Buchanan) who scored in the 83rd minute off the foot of junior forward Alyssa Rice (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor).

The Wildcats stay on the road, travelling to NEAC opponent College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J. tomorrow September 11th for a match scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
