UTICA, NY –  SUNYIT senior Darilyn Brown (Middletown, NY/Middletown) has received the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, which recognizes students who have best demonstrated, and have been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, or career achievement.

Brown, a communication and information design major, earned the honor for her dominance both in the classroom and on the soccer field.  A staple of the Wildcat defense the past four seasons, Brown helped the team record the most shutouts and fewest goals allowed in school history en route to earning her third straight selection to the NEAC All-Conference First Team.  Academically, she was named to the school's dean's list.

Brown, along with fellow SUNYIT senior Jeanyhwh Desulme, was among 249 award recipients honored by SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher on April 5 in a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany, NY.

The Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, which was created 14 years ago, had an average grade point average (GPA) of 3.8 for all recipients this year.
