Women's Soccer Continues Its Winning Ways with 2-0 Victory over SUNY ESF

SYRACUSE, NY – The SUNYIT women's soccer team registered its sixth straight victory with a 2-0 win over the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry Sunday.  The victory placed the Lady Wildcats at 12-3 overall and adds to their program-best total for wins a season, which they set in Saturday's victory over NEAC rival SUNY Cobleskill.

The Wildcats controlled the field for most of the contest, holding ESF to just two shots on the day while firing off 12 of their own.  Both SUNYIT goals would come in the second half, with junior Nicole DiNitto (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) scoring her team-best eleventh goal of the season at 52:36 off a corner kick delivered by senior Amy King (Brookfield, NY/Brookfield).  With the game already in hand, freshman Kristina Strang (Rotterdam, NY/Schalmont) would seal the deal with a goal with twenty seconds left to play that was assisted by senior Katie Wilday (Galway, NY/Galway).

SUNYIT freshman Margaret Werenczak (Mohawk, NY/Mohawk) made one save in the net and recorded her second shutout in as many days, while Olivia Gragliardi made five saves for ESF.

"This was a good win in tough conditions," explained head coach Tyler Renaud.  "We were also able to rest some injuries."

The Wildcats will be back in action this Thursday when they travel to take on Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  The contest, which was originally set for September 30 but had to be rescheduled due to weather conditions, will begin at 4:00 pm.
