WLAX: Wildcats Earn Second NAC Win of the Season 21-5 Over NVU-Lyndon.

LYNDON, Vt. – The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team earned their third win of the season on Saturday afternoon, 21-5 over North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent NVU-Lyndon. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, scoring a season-high 21 goals to secure the win. The Wildcats are now 3-8 with a 2-2 record in NAC play.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Poly started off strong, scoring the first six goals of the game. They would go on to score nine goals in the quarter to set the tone early. Emma Draper, Kaitlin Kopcza, and Rylie Fischer each scored in the opening minutes to give SUNY Poly a 3-0 lead. Molly Burdick followed up with two goals, while Madison Bastien also found the back of the net to help the Wildcats jump out to a 6-0 lead. Northern Vermont-Lyndon got on the board with a goal from Isabel Bourgeois, but SUNY Poly answered with three more goals, including two from Kopcza, to take a commanding 9-2 lead after the first quarter.

 

The second quarter saw SUNY Poly continue to dominate, with Kopcza scoring two more goals and Fischer adding another to push the lead to 11-2. Katie Cushing scored for Northern Vermont-Lyndon on a free position shot, but Kopcza responded with another goal to complete her hat trick. Abigail Rosaschi also scored for SUNY Poly, and the Wildcats took a 14-4 lead into halftime.

 

In the third quarter, SUNY Poly's offense continued to roll, with Burdick scoring three more goals. Emma Draper, Katelyn Elliott, and Rylie Fischer also scored to extend the lead to 20-4. Kopcza scored her sixth goal of the game to give SUNY Poly a 21-3 lead in the fourth. Lexi Leroy scored a goal with five minutes left for Northern Vermont-Lyndon late in the game, but it was too little too late, as SUNY Poly secured a 21-5 win.

 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Jayden Brown earned her third win of the year in goal. She made three saves.
  • Kaitlin Kopcza finished with six goals and four assists, 10 draw controls, and five caused turnovers.
  • Molly Burdick had seven goals,  three assists, six ground balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
  • Rylie Fischer had three goals and one assist.
  • Emma Draper had a pair of goals for the Wildcats.
  • SUNY Poly dominated possession, winning 20 draw controls to Northern Vermont-Lyndon's nine.
  • SUNY Poly outshot Northern Vermont-Lyndon 39-113 in the game and had 30 shots on goal to NVU's eight.
  • Isabel Bourgeois and Kate Cushing each scored twice for Lyndon. Cushing also had an assist.
  • Rachel Palladino and Lexi Leroy led the defensive effort for the Hornets. They had six and five caused turnovers respectively. Palladino added seven ground balls to her stat line. Leroy scored a goal.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will kick off a three-game homestand to finish their regular season on March 25th against Morrisville State. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field.
