WLAX: Wildcats Fight Hard, but Lose to Keuka on an Overtime Goal.

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team lost to Keuka on Thursday in overtime. Keuka's Trinity Burton scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Wolves to a 13-12 victory. The game was exciting with the lead changing hands three times with five game-tying goals scored. SUNY Poly is now 1-4 this season.

 

After a relatively slow start to the game, Keuka took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. SUNY Poly fought back, scoring three unanswered goals to open the second quarter to take their first lead of the game 4-2. Keuka scored two goals in the final three minutes of the first half to tie the game at four at the half.

 

Keuka took the lead two minutes into the third quarter, but Kaitlin Kopcza tied it up for the Wildcats just over a minute later. Keuka would rattle off three unanswered goals to take an 8-5 lead, but Kopcza would strike again to close the gap to 8-6 at the end of the third.

 

Keuka opened the fourth quarter with a man-up goal to extend their lead to three, but the Wildcats would not give in. Poly chipped into the lead in the last 10 minutes, trading one goal for two and scoring four of the game's last five goals to knot it up at 12 to end regulation.

 

In overtime, Trinity Burton played the role of hero, scoring the game-winner with 3:22 left on the clock.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • SUNY Poly's Kaitlin Kopcza led all players with five goals on nine shots taken. She also had seven draw controls, five ground balls, and a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Madeline Greene had a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists for Keuka.
  • Molly Burdick scored three goals for the Wildcats. She also had a game-high 12 draw controls, and three caused turnovers.
  • Trinity Burton had three goals, an assist, two draw controls, and scored the game-winning goal in overtime for Keuka.
  • Rylie Fisher scored three goals for the Wildcats. She also had a ground balland a caused turnover.
  • Patricia Vanlue had a team-high five caused turnovers and a game-high six groundballs for SUNY Poly.
  • Jayden Brown made eight saves in goal for the Wildcats.
  • Alyssa Chase was the winning goalkeeper for the Wolves. She made eight saves.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will travel to Hartwick on Wednesday, March 29th to take on the Hawks in non-conference play. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
