WLAX: Wildcats Lose a Close Game to Potsdam 15-13.

UTICA, N.Y. -  The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 15-13 loss to the Potsdam Bears in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Wildcat Field. The Wildcats got down early in the first, battled back in the second, tied the game early in the fourth, and fell just short late in what was an exciting game. The Wildcats are now 1-3 this season.

 

Potsdam dominated early on, going up 6-1 with six different players contributing goals to the lead. SUNY Poly answered back in the second quarter with four goals, including two from senior midfielder Molly Burdick, to make the score 7-5 at halftime.

 

In the second half, the teams continued to trade goals with SUNY Poly tying the game at 10-10 in the fourth quarter. However, Potsdam pulled ahead, scoring two goals in 40 seconds to take a three-goal lead with six to play. The Wildcats answered, but one more goal down the stretch was just enough to seal the win for Potsdam.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Potsdam's Anita Reitano had an outstanding game with a game-high six goals and two assists.
  • Mia Martin of Potsdam scored a pair of goals and had an assist.
  • Megan MacWilliams contributed with a goal and eight draw controls for Potsdam.
  • Mallory Marks scored two goals, won 10 draw controls, and caused a turnover for the Bears.
  • Kaitlin Kopcza of SUNY Poly scored a team-high four goals, a groundball, and two draw controls.
  • Molly Burdick had four points on three goals and an assist. She also had a team-high three caused turnovers, four groundballs, and two draw controls.
  • Madison Bastien of SUNY Poly scored two goals, both from free-position shots.
  • Jayden Brown made 16 saves for the Wildcats in goal. She faced 31 shots on goal.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will look to bounce back on March 23rd when they travel to Keuka for a non-conference game against the Wolves. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM start.
