WLAX: Wildcats Drop Season Opener to Utica.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team suffered a tough loss in their season opener, falling 20-0 to Utica University on Wednesday. SUNY Poly struggled to get anything going offensively, as they were held scoreless and only managed to take seven shots throughout the game.

 

Utica came out firing on all cylinders and dominated the game from the start. They scored 10 goals in the first period alone, and never looked back. Samantha Decondo led the way for Utica with six goals, while Abigail Gerling added four goals of her own. Belicia Biette and Grace Stuhlman also had solid performances, combining for four goals and five assists.

 

Defensively, Utica held SUNY Poly to only one shot in the first period, and goalkeeper Alyssa Pisano made six saves to preserve the shutout. For SUNY Poly, goalkeeper Jayden Brown made eight saves in the losing effort.

SUNY Poly will look to bounce back in their next game, a non-conference matchup with Wells College. That game will be played on Saturday, March 4th at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
