WLAX: Somes Scores Seven In Wildcat Win Over Sage.

ALBANY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's lacrosse team earned their second win of the 2020 season on Wednesday night 21-10 over Sage College. The Wildcats led right from the jump, scoring two goals in the first minute of the game. After a Sage college goal with 26:30 left in the first, the Wildcats rattled off four straight to take a commanding 6-1 goal. The lead would hold for the rest of the game. The Gators brought it within three goals at the half, but SUNY Poly ended the game on an 11-3 run to earn the big win. The 'Cats are now 2-0 this season.

 

NOTES:

  • Emily Somes (Elbridge, N.Y.) led the Wildcats on the with a game-high seven goals on 19 shots taken. Somes also had a career-high 16 draw controls, a team-high five ground balls, and a team-high four caused turnovers.
  • Attack Kaley Pichura (Syracuse, N.Y.) had six goals and one assist for the Wildcats for four points. She also had three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
  • Alycia Lugo (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) had 12 saves in goal to seal the road win. She is 2-0 on the year.
  • Samantha Shafer had a team-high four goals for the Gators.
  • Paige Stewart added two goals with two assists.
  • Carly Plaisance had 15 saves in the net for the Gators.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will host Fredonia on Sunday in a non-conference game. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field.
