Lady Wildcats Win Second in a Row with 10-9 Victory in Overtime

LANCASTER, P.A. – In a stark departure from the balmy weather enjoyed of late by most in the Northeast, the SUNYIT Lady Wildcats (2-4, 2-0 NEAC) battled through a cold rain for their second straight win Saturday, 10-9 in double-overtime over the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College (0-5, 0-2 NEAC).

Despite being outshot 32-18, the Wildcats were able to score when it counted as Cassidy Thompson (Weedsport, N.Y. / Weedsport) netted a free position shot early on in the second overtime. It was enough to squeak by as the SUNYIT defense held on for the win.

Jenna Lashua (Heuvelton, N.Y. / Heuvelton) led SUNYIT with four goals on just five shots, and Veronica Metz (Morrisville, N.Y. / MVCC) followed up her stellar performance from yesterday with a three-goal performance.

The Wildcats in general showed remarkable poise in the victory, as the team surrendered three goals in the second half to blow a 9-6 lead and necessitate the extra time. In addition, SUNYIT was held scoreless for nearly 18 minutes before Thompson buried the game-winner; an impressive feat of determination and endurance for such a young team.

The Wildcats will look to continue their hot streak this Wednesday on the road at SUNY Canton. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
