WBB: Wildcats Win Conference Game Against NVU-Johnson 69-57.

JOHNSON, Vt. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team defeated North Atlantic Conference opponent NVU-Johnson 69-57 on Friday night. Molly Burdick, Kiera Connor, and Lyrik Jackson all scored in double figures for the Wildcats. With the win, the Wildcats improve to 9-11 on the season and 7-3 in conference play. With the loss, the Badgers move to 11-8 on the season and 4-5 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Kierra Connor got the scoring going for the Wildcats in the first quarter to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. Connor, Burdick, and Jackson would do all the first-quarter scoring for the Wildcats, who went into the second quarter down 19-12.

Gabrielle Wardwell and Paris Atuahene would score for the Badgers to extend their lead to 24-12, before a handful of Kierra Connor baskets and a Lauren Denny three-pointer would cut the lead to 26-21. The two teams would continue to exchange baskets before the Badgers would take a 34-28 lead going into halftime.

Coming out of the half, the Wildcats would get key baskets from the bench when Patricia Vanlue and Ashley Reid would give the Wildcats a 39-37 lead. The last five minutes of the third quarter would contain five lead changes before the Wildcats took a 49-46 lead going into the fourth quarter.

The Wildcats would control the fourth quarter, extending their lead early and fighting off a few Badgers runs to hold onto the 69-57 victory. Kelsey Meca would chip in all five of her points in the fourth quarter to help the Wildcats hang on for the conference win.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Molly Burdick led all Wildcats players with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

  • Gabrielle Wardwell would lead the Badgers with 17 points and 18 rebounds.

  • Lyrik Jackson led all players with six assists.
