WBB: Wildcats Beaten in Overtime by UMPI in NAC Play.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team lost a close game on Saturday afternoon 69-66 to the University of Maine - Presque Isle Owls in overtime. The Wildcats erased a late deficit to force overtime, but could not gain the edge in the extra period and lost the game. The Wildcats are now 5-10 this season with a 3-3 record in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play. The Owls improved to 7-6 with a 3-2 NAC record.

 

The Owls took a seven-point lead into the locker room at halftime, growing it to as many as 13 points in the third quarter. In the fourth, the Wildcat defense held UMPI to just four points to erase the deficit. With the Wildcats down by three and under a minute to play, Lyrik Jackson knocked down the game-tying 3-pointer to force overtime. In overtime, UMPI sealed the win late with a 5-0 run to earn the three-point win.

 

NOTABLE STATISTICS:

  • UMPI's Emily Wheaton led all players with 23 points. She also had a team-high five assists, four rebounds, and a steal.
  • Molly Burdick had a double-double for the Wildcats with a team-high 22 points and 11 rebounds. It was her 11th double-double in 15 games. She also had five assists, three steals, and a game-high two blocks.
  • Patricia Vanlue had career-high 12 points in the game and a game-high 13 rebounds to record her first career double-double. Vanlue also had a steal and a block.
  • Lyrik Jackson had 16 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and an assist in the game for SUNY Poly.
  • Lauren Denny had a game-high seven assists for the Wildcats. She also scored 11 points and had two steals.
  • Alexis Ireland had a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Owls.
  • Jelecia Ma'Gee-Hodges had 12 points, four rebounds, three steals, an assist, and a block for the Owls.

The Wildcats will travel to Cazenovia on Tuesday, January 17th for a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup. The game is scheduled for a 5:00 PM tip-off.
