WBB: Wildcats Drop Matchup to UMass-Dartmouth in Smith College Holiday Tournament 74-46.

NORTHAMPTON, MA - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team lost 74-46 against UMass-Dartmouth on Friday night for a non-conference matchup with the Corsairs. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 4-5 on the season, and the Corsairs improve to 5-5.

The Corsairs would quickly jump out to an 8-2 lead in the first quarter before a Lauren Denny three-pointer would cut the lead to 8-5. Both teams would continue to exchange baskets before a Jemima Joseph jump shot would put the Corsairs ahead 19-13 at the end of the first quarter.

Faith Wagner would get the scoring going in the second quarter, connecting from three-point range to cut the deficit the three points. Wagner would lead all Wildcats scorers with 11 points. The Corsairs would heat up in the second quarter, however, taking a 39-22 lead into halftime.

Jemima Joseph would heat up in the third quarter, scoring six of her 13 points in the quarter. Wagner would chip in four points in the third quarter for the Wildcats. 

Lyrik Jackson would score six of her eight points in the fourth quarter, however, it wasn't enough for the Wildcats to cut into the deficit.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Faith Wagner led all Wildcats scorers with 11 points, her career high.

  • Molly Burdick recorded a double-double, recording 10 points and 11 rebounds.

  • Teja Andrews, Melanie DeMeo, and Jemima Joseph all scored in double figures for the Corsairs.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, December 31st against Bridgewater State for their final game of the Smith College Holiday Tournament. The game is scheduled to tip off at 1:00 PM.
