WBB: Wildcats Drop Non-Conference Game to Hamilton College 63-48.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team lost 63-48 against Hamilton College on Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup with the Continentals. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 4-4 on the season, and the Continentals improve to 6-1.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, showcased by six first-quarter points by Molly Burdick and Kierra Connor. The Wildcats' scoring would slow down in the second quarter, however, and the Continentals would take a 26-25 lead going into halftime. Courtney Shay would have nine first-half points for the Continentals.

After halftime, the Wildcats would keep the game tight in the third quarter. Lyrik Jackson would get the second half going with a layup to take a 27-26 Wildcats lead. The Wildcats would keep the momentum, extending their lead to 35-29 before the Continentals would go on a 12-2 run to end the third quarter and take a 41-37 lead.

The Wildcats wouldn't be able to retake the lead in the fourth quarter, with the Continentals outscoring the Wildcats in the quarter 22-11 and holding on for the 63-48 win. The game contained four ties and five lead changes, with both teams shooting a very close percentage from the field. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Molly Burdick led all Wildcats scorers and rebounders. She would finish with 23 points and 14 rebounds.

  • Kierra Connor and Lyrik Jackson would both have double-digit points for the Wildcats.

  • Lauren Denny had six assists to lead the Wildcats.

  • Courtney Shay, Emma Sehring, Taylor Lambo, and Althea Hill would all score in double digits for the Continentals.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Saturday, December 10th at Cazenovia College for North Atlantic Conference play. The game is scheduled to tip off a 1:00 PM.
