WBB: Molly Burdick Surpasses 1,500 career points in an 81-62 Win Over NVU-Johnson.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team won their second North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game of the season on Saturday 81-61 over NVU-Johnson. The Wildcats got a huge performance from Molly Burdick who led all scorers with 34 points. The scoring outburst was not only a career-high but also got her to 1,502 career points scored at SUNY Poly. The Wildcats are now 4-3 this season.

 

The Wildcats got out to a big lead in the first half, outscoring the Badgers 23-16 in the first quarter and 26-7 in the second to take a 26-point lead into the locker room at halftime. Molly Burdick had an incredible half for the Wildcats. She recorded a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double in the first half alone. Burdick would finish the game with a career-high 34 points for her team. The Wildcats won most of the team stat battles owning all three shooting percentage categories, team rebounds, points in the paint, and assists. The 'Cats led by as many as 36 points in the game.

 

NOTABLE STATISTICS:

  • Molly Burdick had a career day for the Wildcats. She scored a career-high 34 points, had 14 rebounds, five assists, and a game-high four blocks. She broke the 1500-point mark in the game, becoming just the second women's basketball player in program history to reach the milestone at SUNY Poly. She is creeping closer to Lyndsey Brognano's 1,731 career points mark to become Wildcat's all-time leading scorer.
  • Kierra Connor had 12 points and four rebounds for the Wildcats in the game.
  • Lauren Denny had nine points, two steals, and a block for the Wildcats.
  • Kelsey Meca scored eight points and had three assists, two rebounds, and a steal.
  • Lyrik Jackson had a game-high seven assists, three rebounds, and seven points.
  • Paris Atuahene had a team-high 28 points for Johnson. She also had a team-high six assists, three steals, and a pair of rebounds.
  • Gabriella Wardwell and Emma Buonanno had 14 and 12 points respectively. Wardwell also had 11 rebounds for a double-double.
