WBB: Wildcats Drop Road Matchup Against Red Dragons 76-64.

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team lost 76-64 against SUNY Cortland on Tuesday night for a non-conference matchup with the Red Dragons. With the loss, the Wildcats move to 1-3 on the season, and the Red Dragons improve to 3-1.

The Wildcats raced out to a 22-18 lead at the end of the first quarter, showcased by 10 first-quarter points by Molly Burdick. The Red Dragons, however, would bounce back in the second quarter, out-scoring the Wildcats 19-14 to take a 37-26 lead heading into halftime. 

Cortland would continue to maintain its lead in the third and fourth quarters. Casey Travers and Maggie Malone would lead the way for the Red Dragons, scoring 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Wildcats would cut the lead to 10 points to keep the game close in the fourth quarter, but the Red Dragons would win the game 76-64. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Lyrik Jackson, Lauren Denny, and Molly Burdick would all score in double figures for the Wildcats.

  • Kierra Connor grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

  • 10 different Red Dragons scored tonight. The Red Dragons shot 44.1% from the field overall, and 31.3% from behind the three-point arc.

The Wildcats will be back at home on Tuesday, November 29th for a matchup with cross-town rival Utica University. The game will tip-off at 5:00 PM.
