WBB: Huge Win in NAC Semifinal Sends Wildcats to Tournament Championship Game. 

MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly women's basketball team had another dominant performance in the North Atlantic Conference Championship Tournament, beating SUNY Canton 84-44 to advance to the NAC Championship Game. The Wildcats will host the East Division winner Husson University on Saturday for the NAC Championship.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The second quarter was the turning point in the game. After growing their lead to six points in the first quarter, SUNY Poly dominated both sides of the ball in the second. The Wildcats scored 32 and allowed just five points in the second quarter. Canton went 1-14 from the field and turned the ball over five times. Canton's lone field goal was a three-pointer that banked in at the halftime buzzer.  Molly Burdick and Lyrik Jackson scored 14 and 13 points respectively in the second.

 

NOTABLE STATS: 

  • Molly Burdick had a 26 point, 11 rebound double-double. She shot 69% from the field and went 2-2 from 3-point range. Burdick also had five assists and three steals in the game.  

  • Lyrik Jackson scored 19 for the Wildcats. She also had three rebounds and an assist. 

  • Kierra Connor had 14 points, seven rebounds, and an assist for Poly. 

  • Lauren Denny had a game-high six assists, scored eight points, and had three steals. 

  • Joie Culkin had a team-high 20 points for SUNY Canton. She also pulled down six rebounds and had a block. 

  • Samantha Dayter had eight points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals for the Kangaroos. 

 

UP NEXT: 

With the win, the Wildcats earn the right to host the 2021-22 North Atlantic Conference Championship Game on Saturday, February 26th. The Wildcats will face the East Division Champion, the Husson University Eagles, who beat Maine Maritime 66-55 in the East Semifinal. The game will take place at SUNY Poly's Campus Center Gym with a start time of 2:00 PM.
