Women's Basketball Snaps Two-Game Skid with 70-48 Victory over Wells

UTICA, NY – The SUNYIT women's basketball team had 11 players score at least two points and snapped its two-game losing streak with a 70-48 victory over the visiting Wells College Express in NEAC action at the Campus Center Gym Wednesday night.  The Lady Wildcats improved to 7-2 in the NEAC and 8-3 overall, while Wells dropped to 2-8 in conference play and 2-10 overall.

While the Wildcats held Wells to just 27 percent shooting from the field in the first half, they only shot 32 percent themselves and allowed Wells to keep the game close, as SUNYIT went into the break up 28-20.  The Wildcats would get hot in the second half, though, opening with a 20-8 run to take a 20-point lead with 14:10 left to play and never looking back.  The Express could only get as close as 14 points down from there and SUNYIT was able to cruise to victory.

Senior Tamara Williams (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds, while sophomore Lyndsey Brognano (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) also finished with 14 points while adding four assists and two steals.  Junior Kwanisha Jones (San Antonio, TX/Indian River) matched her season high of 10 assists and added nine points and six rebounds, while freshman Abbey Hanehan (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater) registered eight points, seven boards and a game-high four steals.
