SB: Wildcats Sweep Day Three in Myrtle Beach With Wins Over Curry and Presque Isle.

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The SUNY Poly softball team earned a pair of wins on Tuesday afternoon at the FastPitch Dreams Classic. In the day's first game, the Wildcats beat Curry College 4-2. In their second game, the Wildcats won 7-2 over UMaine-Presque Isle. Poly is now 4-1 this season.

 

GAME 1:

SUNY Poly – 4

Curry – 2

WP: Trinity Critelli (3-0)

LP: Jillian Rogers (0-1)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

SUNY Poly got on the board in the second inning with a squeeze bunt by Kelly Powell that scored Amy DeSena from third.

 

In the third inning, SUNY Poly's Ava Faragon singled to the pitcher, advanced to third on an error by the first baseman, and scored on an error by the left fielder. Maddelyn Hoehn also scored on the play to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead.

 

Curry responded in the bottom of the third with a squeeze bunt of their own by Madison Schwartz that drove in Jillian Rogers.

 

In the fifth inning, Curry's Natalia Okleasky hit a double, and Madelyn White had a squeeze bunt to drive in Okleasky, cutting the lead to one run for the Wildcats.

 

SUNY Poly scored an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning on a single by Aeron Hamm. She would score on the play after an error allowed her to advance three bases.

 

SUNY Poly's pitcher Trinity Critelli recorded the win after striking out 11 batters and allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings. She is now 3-0 this season.

 

Jillian Rogers took the loss for Curry, giving up four runs on five hits and three walks over 6.1 innings.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • Trinity Critelli was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats. She allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out 11 batters over seven innings.
  • Ava Faragon had a hit and scored two runs for the Wildcats.
  • Poly's Amy DeSena had the Wildcat's only extra-base hit. She hit a double and scored one run.
  • Jillian Rogers of Curry was the losing pitcher, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks while striking out seven batters over 6.1 innings.
  • Curry's Natalia Okleasky had a hit and an RBI double.
  • Jillian Rogers had two hits for Curry, including a triple, and scored one run.

UMPI – 2

SUNY Poly – 7

WP: Joy Stevens (1-1)

LP: Hailey Saylor (0-5)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Presque Isle jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI double by Zoe Aylward-Frank.

 

SUNY Poly took the lead in the fourth inning when Kelly Powell singled, advanced to second, and then scored on an error by Me.-Presque Isle's catcher. Meghan Peek and Aeron Hamm also scored on the error.

 

SUNY Poly continued to add to their lead with three more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI triple from Kimberly Birmingham and a two-RBI double by Amy DeSena. SUNY Poly added another run in the sixth inning when Birmingham singled and brought in Maddelyn Hoehn to make the score 7-2.

 

Joy Stevens was the winning pitcher for SUNY Poly, allowing two runs on 11 hits with one walk and seven strikeouts over seven innings. Hailey Saylor took the loss for Me.-Presque Isle, allowing seven runs, four earned, on nine hits with two walks and three strikeouts over six innings.

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:

  • SUNY Poly's Kimberly Birmingham went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.
  • Kelly Powell went 1-for-3 with an RBI, including a single in the fourth inning that ended up plating three for the Wildcats.
  • SUNY Poly's Joy Stevens earned the win as the starting pitcher, pitching a complete game while allowing two runs on 11 hits and one walk, and striking out seven.
  • Maddelyn Hoehn and Ava Faragon each had two hits in the game for Poly. Hoehn had a double and scored a run. Faragon also scored.
  • Me.-Presque Isle's Gracelyn Walsh went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
  • Me.-Presque Isle's Zoe Aylward-Frank hit a double and drove in a run.

 

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will take on Randolph and Skidmore on Wednesday. The game against Randolph will start at 11:00 AM. The Skidmore game will begin at 3:00 PM.
