Softball Takes Two on the Road Over NEAC Foe Morrisville State

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The SUNY Polytechnic Softball Team (4-10, 2-2 NEAC) rebounded from its tough 1-0 loss a day ago to the Continentals of Hamilton with a sweep of the Morrisville Mustangs (5-14, 2-9 NEAC).

The Wildcats won both games in 5 innings, taking the first game 12 to 1 and the second game 10 to 2.

Fallon Reinold (Holland Patent, N.Y. / Holland Patent) hurled all five innings in the first game for the Wildcats, allowing 1 run on just 2 hits while striking out 6. She also had a pair of RBI's at the plate, while scoring 2 runs herself.

Second baseman Abby Black (Turin, N.Y. / South Lewis) had a monster day for the 'Cats, knocking in a team-high 4 RBI's while ripping the team's only two extra base hits. The first was a double to plate Krista Pristera (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford), while the second was a three-run homer in the top of the 5th.

Pristera led the team with 3 hits on 4 at-bats, all singles.

The second game saw Bridget Ashmore (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford) take the bump. The senior right-hander scattered 7 hits over 4 innings, surrendering just 2 runs while striking out 3.

The Wildcats pounded out 10 hits in their five innings of work, doing the bulk of their scoring in the 3rd inning – during which SUNY Poly took advantage of some errors along with RBI singles by Pristera and Black to score 5 runs – and the 5th inning, during which they scored 4 runs on a 2-RBI double by lefty Erika Charbonneau (Boonville, N.Y. / Adirondack) and RBI singles by Reinold and Abby Coyne (Niskayuna, N.Y. / Niskayuna).

Samantha Stewart (Gloversville, N.Y. / Gloversville) came on to finish the 5th inning for the Wildcats, throwing a 1-2-3 inning to secure the victory.

The Wildcats will, at long last, look forward to their first home games of the year on Thursday of this week. They host the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
