MXC: Wildcat’s Place 5th and Celebrate Seniors at Wildcat Classic Invitational.

UTICA, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly cross country team hosted the 2023 Wildcat Weekend Classic on Saturday afternoon. The team placed fifth out of 10 teams with a team score of 143. The Wildcats honored their three seniors, Spencer Daley, Caleb McDermott, and Sean VanCoughnett after the race with a short ceremony to celebrate their last race on their home course.

 

Bennett Melita, a freshman from Utica, claimed the top spot in the 8K race with a fantastic time of 26:14.4 setting the pace for the competition. Omar Mohamed from Mohawk Valley CC secured the second position with a time of 26:55.9, while Zachary Brown from Utica finished third with a time of 27:33.3.

 

The men's team from Utica dominated the event, securing the first-place position with a total score of 27 which was 32p points better than the closest team. Notable performances from Tobias Jeralds, Anthony Leotta, Hayden Lohmann, and Joseph Santiago contributed to their victory.

 

SUNY Cobleskill secured the second position in the team rankings with strong performances from Nick Logan, Nik Recore, Vladamire Sheehan, and Jacob Rhinesmith.

 

The Wildcats placed fifth out of ten teams with a team score of 143. The team's finishers can be found below:

UP NEXT:

The Wildcats will have next weekend off before returning to action on Saturday, October 7th at the Hamilton College Invitational. The race is scheduled for a 11:45 AM start.
