MCC: Wildcats Finish 6th, Place Three in the Top 25 at Thomas College Invitational.

WATERVILLE, Maine - The SUNY Poly cross country teams traveled to Waterville, Maine for their first away meet of the 2021 season at the Thomas College Cross Country Invitational. Six teams competed in the men's 8K race and four teams competed in the women's 5K race. In the men's 8K, Southern Maine took first place. Three of their runners placed in the top five places in the race. All five of their scoring runners placed in the top 15. In the women's 5K, Husson took first place, with three top-five finishers and seven top-twenty finishers. 

 

The SUNY Poly men's team was highlighted by seniors Jake Baisley and Joseph Killian placing 23rd and 24th, respectively. Sophomore Spencer Daley placed 26th for the Wildcats. Only sophomore Ruchika Kilaparty ran the race for the Wildcat women. She finished 15th in the race. 

 

The men's race was won by Southern Maine, who scored 33 points in the race, followed by Husson with 63, and Maine-Farmington with 74. Southern Maine's top three runners ran times between 29:43.8 and 30:03.1, and their next two runners finished in the top-fifteen to secure the victory for Southern Maine. 

 

The Women's race was close between Husson and Maine-Farmington. Husson scored 37 and Farmington scored 48 points. Husson was able to secure the victory by scoring in 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 14th, and 17th.

The Wildcats will be back at home for the Wildcat Classic Invitational next weekend. The race is scheduled for Saturday, September 18, at 10:00 A.M. A strong race at their home course could help the Wildcats gain some momentum in the second half of their regular season.
