MSOC: SUNY Poly Locks Down #1 Seed in NAC West With a 5-0 Win Over NVU-Johnson

JOHNSON, Vt. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team cruised to their seventh victory in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play on Saturday with a 5-0 win over NVU-Johnson. The win in their last regular-season conference game brings the Wildcats NAC record to 7-0-2 this season with a 5-0 record in West Division play. The undefeated Wildcats will host games in the first two rounds of the NAC Postseason. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Noah Fagnani and would not look back. Fagnani would score two more unanswered goals to start the second half giving Poly a commanding 3-0 lead. Two more late goals by Aboubacar Camara and Matthew McCord would see the Wildcats lead grow to five goals before the final buzzer. 

 

PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS: 

The Wildcats 5-0 record in NAC West Division play earns them the right to host the first two rounds of the NAC Championship Tournament. SUNY Poly will host the West Division side of the bracket for the quarterfinals and semifinal rounds. The Wildcats will match up with the #4 seeded SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers on Saturday, October 30th in the quarterfinal round. #2 SUNY Canton will face #3 Cazenovia at SUNY Poly in the other quarterfinal on Saturday. Game times will be announced later in the week.

 

The winners of the two quarterfinal games will meet on Sunday, October 31st at SUNY Poly. The winner of the West semifinal will face the semifinal winner from the East for the NAC Championship. The game will take place on Saturday, November 6th. The host has not been determined as it is based on the record of the two competing teams. 

 

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES: 

  • The three goals by Noah Fagnani bring his season total to 10. His 20 points are tied for the most by a Wildcat this season. 

  • Aboubacar Camara scored his third goal of the season in the 67th minute. He has 10 points on the year.

  • Matthew McCord scored his first goal of the season in the game.

  • Chase Coluccio earned the win in goal for the Wildcats. He made seven saves to earn his sixth shutout of the season. 

 

UP NEXT: 

The Wildcats will take on Morrisville State on Tuesday, October 26th. SUNY Poly will celebrate their senior day with a short ceremony prior to the game. The game is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start at SUNY Poly's Wildcat Field. The game will be streamed live on the SUNY Poly Sports Network (SPSN).
