MSOC: Wildcats Drop Two Close Games on Opening Weekend to Oswego and New Paltz.

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Wildcat men's soccer team took to the road to sick off their season at Oswego State. The opening weekend tournament saw the Wildcats take on the Lakers of Oswego on Friday and the New Paltz Hawks on Saturday. The Wildcats lost both games by a slim margin. The final score of the game on Friday was 2-1 and the game on Saturday was a 1-0 loss.

On Friday the Wildcats met up with the host Oswego State. The game started with a quick goal by Nick McBride (Rotterdam, N.Y.) in the 18th minute. McBride, the Wildcats leading scorer in 2015 beat his defender with some handy foot work and drove a shot past the goal keeper on the left post. The goal was McBride's first of the season and the only goal that the Wildcats would score for the weekend. The 1-0 lead almost lasted into halftime, however the Lakers would strike in the 44th minute to knot up the game. Oswego would strike again after halftime on a free kick to take the 2-1 lead that would hold through regulation. Goalkeeper Mingoro Fanny (Bronx, N.Y.)) made six saves in the game for the Wildcats. The Wildcats were outshot in the game 18-6 by the Lakers.

The Wildcat offense was stagnant again in the second game of the weekend. The Wildcats managed to get just three shots off with just one on goal. Mingoro Fanny saw three SOG from the Hawks. He made two saves and let in a goal. The final score of the second game was 1-0 in favor of the New Paltz Hawks.

The Wildcats are now 0-2 on the season. The team will be back in action on September 6th when they travel to Union College to take on the Dutchmen. The game is scheduled for a 7:00 start. Live stats for the game can be found HERE
