MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team hosted Bryn Athyn in a NEAC Conference game on Sunday. The first half was relatively uneventful as neither team was able to get any offense going. The second half saw SUNY Poly score twice to put the game away. The Wildcats won 2-0 bringing their record to 7-4-1 (3-2-1 NEAC).

Nick McBride (Rotterdam, N.Y. / Mohonasen HS) scored the first goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 75th minute to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The goal, his 6th of the season, would have been all that the Wildcats needed to win, but a funky play would allow the 'Cats to extend their lead just over a minute later.

In the 76th minute the Wildcats were awarded a free kick just outside of the 18 yard mark. The referees placed the ball and whistled to begin play. Gerard Nappe (Shirley, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist HS) of SUNY Poly took a shot, however during the play, the blocking line of Bryn Athyn encroached on the play, bringing what would have been just a routine save by the goalie back to the spot of the foul. The Bryn Athyn goalie walked the ball out to the spot of the foul to reset the ball mistakenly thinking there would be a reset, however the ball was still live and when he set the ball down, Nappe fired a shot off and found the back of the net. After a brief discussion amongst the Referees, the goal was upheld despite much protest from the Bryn Athyn players and coaches.

The game ended 2-0 in favor of the Wildcats, securing the teams' seventh win of the season and their third NEAC win. The Wildcats will be back in action on Wednesday when they host SUNY Canton at Wildcat Field. The game will begin at 6:00 PM.
