MARCY, N.Y. - The SUNY Poly men's soccer team hosted Penn St. Abington on Saturday in a NEAC Conference matchup. The Wildcats emerged victorious thanks to tireless defensive play. The final score was Abington 0, SUNY Poly 1.

The lone goal of the game came from Junior forward Vincent Seruhungu (Syracuse, N.Y. / Fowler HS) on an assist from Emil Winzel (Gothenburg, Sweeden / Huitfeld & Ska) in the opening minute. The goal was Seruhungu's first of the season.

SUNY Poly was out shot by Abington in the first half 4-2, but the Nitany Lions were only able to put one on net. That one SOG came in the first half. SUNY Poly on the other hand may have been out shot in the first, but they lit up the net taking nine shots in the second half, putting 4 of the shots on goal.

Jess Yanarella (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Ketcham HS) recorded his first shutout of the season for the Wildcats, only needing to stop one shot thanks to some sound defensive support.

The Wildcats record improves to 4-4-1 (2-2 NEAC) with the win. The team will be back in action on Sunday when they take on the Bryn Athyn Lions in a NEAC Conference game. The scheduled start time is 12:00.
