Men’s Soccer Outdueled by Golden Knights, 3-0

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Men's Soccer Team (1-2-1, 1-0 NEAC) fell to the Golden Knights of Clarkson University on Wednesday night, 3-0. The Golden Knights – ranked #10 in the Division III East Region – are the second regionally-ranked team the Wildcats have faced this year, as they tied #8 Utica College earlier in the year.

The Golden Knights only out shot the Wildcats 15-13 on the game, however the visitors certainly appeared to control the play on the field, creating a number of opportunities on offense. In fact Wildcat keeper Jesse Yanarella (Wappingers Falls, N.Y. / Ketchum) made a handful of outstanding diving saves to keep the game as close as it was, including stopping his second penalty kick of the year late in the second half.

Yanarella finished with 7 saves on the night.

The Golden Knights' first score came on a rare own goal by the Wildcats. Forward Marco Parisi drove a free kick into the box to start the play; the ball was batted around before ultimately deflecting off a SUNYIT player and trickling just over the goal line (6:56).

The Wildcats held the visitors for the rest of the first half.

In the second, Tucker Wilcox extended the Golden Knight lead by converting an assist from Maximillian Leetz (54:25).

As the Wildcats pushed numbers forward late in the game, the visitors snuck behind to score their final goal, as Brian Kroetz received an excellent long through-ball from Troy White before beating Yanarella to the far side (87:17).

Wednesday night's game concluded a four-game home stand to start the SUNYIT season. The Wildcats will now begin a 4-game road swing, heading first to Penn St.-Abington this Saturday for a NEAC matchup. Game time is slated for 3:00 pm.
