MARCY, N.Y. – With all the awards he has garnered over the past month since the season ended, it almost seems perfunctory to list another one for SUNYIT Goalkeeper Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y. / MLK).
Just yesterday, for example, the senior goalkeeper was named to the ECAC Division III Upstate Men's Soccer All-Star Second Team, along with junior Wildcat defenseman Brett Gruener (Ballston Spa, N.Y. / Ballston Spa).
Not to take anything away from the 4th-straight NEAC Goalkeeper of the Year Award, the 2nd-career NEAC Player of the Year Award, the 2nd-career NEAC Championship MVP Award, or the NSCAA All-Region 1st Team honor, but on Friday morning Faye received his biggest accolade yet, as he was named the goalkeeper on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America 1st Team.
Coach Peterson Jerome of SUNYIT could only be reached for a brief comment, but said in a text that it was "awesome for the kid and the college."
Coach Jerome has always been vocal about the talent of his 4-year starting goalkeeper, referring to him at times throughout the year as "Spiderman." Jerome has long been convinced that Faye was the best Division III goalkeeper in the country – and with Friday's release, it turns out he's not the only one.
