Wildcats Tie Program Record for Wins with 6-0 Shutout of Bard

MARCY, N.Y. – The SUNYIT Wildcats (13-1-1, 6-1 NEAC) tied a school record for most wins in a season on Tuesday night with a 6-0 win over the Raptors of Bard College. With the win, the Wildcats tie the men's soccer program record for wins in a season, which was set back in 2009 and tied in 2010. With just one loss on the year, however, SUNYIT is assured of finishing with a new program record for season winning percentage.

The Wildcats got on the board early, as Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y. / MLK) scored his team-leading 10th goal of the year.

The Wildcats pushed the ball into the penalty box where it was batted around by several players before Montaleza was able to punch it in just 5:13 into the game.

In the second half it was Josh Kimber (Chittenango, N.Y. / Chittenango) extending the SUNYIT lead with his 6th goal of the season. Kimber took advantage of a misplay by the Bard keeper that caused a SUNYIT shot to get away; the speedy senior forward leaped over the keeper to get to the ball and tap in the easy score. Kimber would add another score later in the half on a free kick to finish with 2 scores on the day.

On the other side of the ball, SUNYIT senior goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y. / MLK) continued his utter dominance in net, recording his conference-leading 9th shutout of the season. The senior keeper made another spectacular save, stopping a pair of shots in the first half. The senior came out of the net to grab a long jump ball in the middle of several players; the ball got away and a Raptor player ripped a shot on the ground towards the goal, but Faye was able to get back in time to make a beautiful kick save.

Faye finished with 4 saves on the day to improve his save percentage to .921, which is tops in the NEAC and 3rd nationally.

Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats were a trio of youngsters and one veteran. Defender Bryan Kilpatrick (Endicott, N.Y. / Union Endicott) scored his first goal of the year, a header off a corner kick in the 57th minute. Luke Bogar (New Hartford, N.Y. / New Hartford) then netted his second goal of the year in the 89th minute. Just 30 seconds later, senior Joe Pfaffenberger (Chester, N.Y. / Warwick Central) scored his first goal of the season, and the final score of the game. Assisting on both late goals was freshman Francesco Tine (Chatham, N.Y. / Lowville) , who has come on strong of late and currently has 4 goals and 2 assists to lead all SUNYIT freshmen.

The Wildcats' will play their second-to-last home game this Saturday at noon, and will be celebrating Senior Day for the matchup with Morrisville State. The game will also have serious implications for seeding in the upcoming NEAC Conference Tournament, as with a win the Wildcats will move into first place and earn the right to host the tournament.
