Men’s Soccer Wins First NEAC Contest, 3-1 Over Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Wildcats won their third-straight on Saturday to remain unbeaten at 3-0-1. SUNYIT netted two goals in the first half and then traded scores in the second to take the 3-1 win over the Keuka Storm.

Kurreem Williams (Mt. Vernon, N.Y. / TCI) scored his second goal of the season at the 19:08 mark to put SUNYIT up 1-0. Seven minutes later, Francesco Tine (Chatham, N.Y. / Chatham) became the first Wildcat player besides Williams or senior Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y. / MLK) to find the net in 2013. Of course, Montaleza wasn't far away, as the midfielder was credited with an assist on the play.

The Storm got on the board at the 78-minute mark to pull to within one, but any hopes of a last-minute comeback were dashed when Montaleza scored on a direct kick in the 90th minute. With the play, Montaleza extended his scoring streak to 4 games and equaled his goal total from all of last year with 6.

While the Wildcats were hot out of the gate – holding an 11 to 4 shot advantage in the first half – the Storm turned things around in the second to out shoot SUNYIT 9-4. Thankfully for the 'Cats, goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y. / MLK) continued his lockdown defense, making 8 saves on the day to remain unbeaten on the young season.

SUNYIT will finish up their 3-game road stretch on Wednesday against the always-dangerous Clarkson Golden Knights. Game time is set for 6:30 pm.
