Adams Scores Game-Winner Late in 2-1 SUNYIT Victory

LANCASTER, PA  – SUNYIT outlasted their hosts on Saturday, besting the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College by a score of 2-1. With the win the Wildcats improved to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in the NEAC, while the Chargers fell to 2-10-2 overall and remain winless in conference, 0-6-2.

The so-far luckless Chargers actually held a 1-0 lead for much of the first half after opening the game with a Sean Westerlund score at 10:58. Westerlund headed it in off a corner from Dwight Shelly.

After that, the Chargers did a good job of negating SUNYIT's 9 to 4 first half shot advantage, as goalie Tim Landis made 3 saves (he would finish the game with 12). In the 42nd minute, however, their luck ran out when Kurreem Williams (Mt. Vernon, N.Y. / TCI) scored his second goal of the season. Williams gathered the ball from in front of the goal and punched it in to even the score at 1-1 going into the half. Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y. / MLK) was credited with an assist on the play, his fifth of the season.

In the second half, SUNYIT turned up the heat with a 15 to 1 shot lead on the host team. Their efforts were finally rewarded in the 83rd minute, when Cameron Adams (Groton, N.Y. / Tompkins Cortland) scored the game winner for the Wildcats.
