Wildcats Lose Double-Overtime Heartbreaker to Union, 2-1

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. – The Wildcats (2-2) fell in a double-overtime thriller to Union College (3-1) on Sunday by a score of 2-1.

The Wildcats started down 1-0 after Sebastian Jansen scored for the Dutchmen in the 22nd minute of the match. It wouldn't be until the 65th minute that SUNYIT was able to even the score, as Diego Montaleza (New York, N.Y. / MLK) was dragged down in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Montaleza easily converted to knot the score at 1-1.

Both keepers turned away chances in the remainder of regulation and the first overtime, and SUNYIT goalie Malick Faye (Bronx, N.Y. / MLK) was described as "sensational," tallying 7 saves on the game.

Union would score the game winner in the 107th minute. Thomas Murtagh, who registered two assists on the game, sent a free kick into the box where Dutchmen Daniel Miller headed it home for the win.

SUNYIT will return home next for a date with Clarkson. The game is scheduled for Wednesday, September 12th at 6:00 pm.
