Men’s Soccer Team Upends Tournament Host MCLA 2-1; Will Face Union on Sunday

NORTH ADAMS, MASS. – The SUNYIT Men's Soccer Team (2-1-0) won their first round game of the CIAO Classic at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) on Saturday by a score of 2-1.

The Wildcats struck first just 57 seconds into the contest. Senior Leighton Francis (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Delhi CC) crossed a ball from the right corner, finding Cameron Adams (Groton, N.Y. / Tompkins Cortland CC) all alone to beat the keeper.

In the 32nd minute the host team MCLA (2-1-0) tied the score. Trailblazer Edgar Asamoah's shot was blocked, but on the attempted clear by SUNYIT, James Brown found the ball and the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

SUNYIT controlled most of the play in the second half, and finally put the host team away in the 57th minute on a Kurreem Williams (Mt. Vernon, N.Y. / TCI) goal. Williams was assisted on the play by sophomore Matt Arcidiacono (Oneonta, N.Y. / Oneonta).

SUNYIT will face Union College on Sunday at noon. Union lost to Salve Regina 2-1 in their Saturday match.
